Shipping & Receiving Clerk

Job Summary

The Shipping and Receiving Clerk takes delivery of incoming shipments of material, prepares merchandise for delivery, and performs necessary steps in E2 to keep records regarding these transactions.

Receiving Functions:

  • Authenticate receipt of shipments alongside bills of lading and packing slips.
  • Record shortages and identify damaged merchandise. Take photos to document damage.
  • Take parts requiring inspection to the QC department.
  • Route items to the proper departments or stocking location.
  • Label incoming material with a Semco Bar Code label and a material ID label if appropriate.

Shipping Functions:

  • Compare the item number and the quantity against the order and enter this information in E2.
  • Determine the proper size and number of shipping containers and assemble the same.
  • Insert merchandise into containers with proper packing material. Take photos during packing process for future reference.
  • Decide the method of shipment, by means of knowledge of shipping procedures, customer preference or routes and rates.
  • Create packing slip and bill of lading in E2.
  • Attach identifying information and delivery instructions on containers.
  • Post weight and shipment charges.
  • Arrange for delivery service pickup, LTL carrier or truckload carrier.
  • Organize records of goods shipped. Turn in paperwork to the Office Manager.
  • Trace missing or lost shipments if requested to do so.

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED

Experience:

  • 1 year as a lift truck operator or material handler
  • 1 year in a manufacturing environment

Other Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Must be certified lift truck operator for material handling
  • Must be able to operate power equipment including saws, nail guns, and banding equipment required to build shipping containers for product to be shipped in.
  • Be able to handle ½’’ x 4’ x 8’ sheets of OSB which is used to build containers.

Working Conditions

  • Working Environment: Manufacturing, dusty, Moderate noise level,
  • Physical Demands: Sitting/Standing for extended periods of time, able to lift up to 40lbs. consistently, with the occasional 70lbs.
  • Required PPE: Safety glasses, steel toe shoes
