New Hire Matt Millard - Senior Saw Operator
When Semco posts a job, we are often looking for very specific qualifications in possible new hires. Often, we are searching for someone with a background in graphite fabrication. Other times, we need a person who can communicate knowledgeably with graphite suppliers and shipping companies. Recently, we needed someone who was expert in operating large saws like the ones we use on our shop floor. If that sounds like a simple qualification, think again. If you hear the word “saw” and what comes to mind is a wooden handle attached to a one-foot blade, like the one you use to trim limbs from bushes in your yard, you’re not imagining the kind of machinery we’re talking about. Not even close. The saws we use in graphite fabrication are quite large and technologically advanced. We wanted someone who knew what they were doing and who had the relevant experience. After searching, we have found that person. Semco is pleased to announce the hire of our newest Saw Operator, Matthew Millard. Matt brings extensive experience running large saws to his new position at Semco. In the short time he has been with our company, he has proven to be a great team player, an excellent worker, and a wonderful individual.
Central to our company is the idea that all of our employees have lives outside of graphite fabrication, and those parts of their lives are important and should be honored. So, a little about Matt. Matt is a father of one. This role of father may be his most important one. When not at work, Matt enjoys several hobbies, including gardening and just spending time outdoors. Matt is also a lifelong resident of Lorian and points to Lorain history as one of his interests. In fact, Matt is that endangered species these days, a reader. In addition to reading books, Matt enjoys cooking at home. We just want to know, Matt, when are we invited? When Matt isn’t cooking, you may find him around Lorain dining at the local restaurants and spending time along the town’s lakeshore, especially during summer months.
We are still getting to know Matt and are finding that he can probably do a lot more that we don’t know about. Maybe we will need Matt to negotiate with those graphite suppliers one day, but while the saws are running, that’s where we want him. We are excited to have Matt as part of the Semco team.
